John Denver

John Denver wrote "Annie's Song" in 1974,

while on a ski lift on Bell Mountain in Aspen, Colorado. He had just skied down a difficult run called, "Elevator Shaft." He was so exhilarated by the previous run that he was inspired to compose "Annie's Song" riding back up the lift. He was so excited about the song that he raced home and immediately set it to music. He dedicated it to his wife Anne. He was an avid pilot, and died while flying his personal aircraft at the age of 53. Denver was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the 1970s
